AIRON –

The world’s most energy-efficient industrial air compressor

AIRON is an innovation project led by Enairon AB aimed at developing a new generation of industrial air compressors with significantly improved energy efficiency. The technology is based on patented, gravity-driven compression using water as the compression medium, enabling near-isothermal compression with minimal energy losses.

Industrial compressed air represents a substantial share of industrial electricity consumption in Europe. By reducing energy use by approximately 37% compared to current state-of-the-art solutions, AIRON contributes to lower CO₂ emissions, reduced operating costs, and increased competitiveness for European industry.

The project focuses on scaling the technology from a validated prototype to commercial readiness, supporting the EU’s objectives in energy efficiency, sustainable industry, and technological innovation.
