Swedish industrial technology company Enairon has raised SEK 45 million in a funding round led by Turbine Capital, Almi Invest GreenTech, the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, along with new and existing investors. The capital will be used to scale the company’s technology, deliver the first full scale systems to industrial customers, and support continued commercial expansion.
Enairon is developing the Gravity Compressor, a patented compression technology based on water and gravity that can reduce energy consumption in compressed air production by 30 to 50 percent. Compressed air currently accounts for around 10 percent of global industrial electricity use, making it one of the largest untapped opportunities for energy efficiency improvements in industry.
“Our ambition is to set a new standard for energy efficient compressed air in industry. With this investment, we can accelerate the rollout of our technology and take the next step toward large scale implementation,” says Theo Wiman Ohlson, CEO and co founder of Enairon.
Enairon’s Gravity Compressor delivers an efficiency rate of 75 percent, compared to below 50 percent for comparable modern screw compressors. The result is lower energy consumption, reduced maintenance needs, and a longer operational lifespan, together leading to a significantly lower total cost for industrial customers.
The technology has been validated in an industrial environment together with Stora Enso, and the company has secured orders for full scale installations from major Swedish industrial players. The next step is to deliver the new 400 kW version of the Gravity Compressor and establish the first full scale commercial reference installations.
“Industry is entering a shift where energy efficiency is no longer optional, but a competitive advantage. Enairon is addressing one of the most energy intensive parts of industrial production with a solution that is both scalable and cost efficient,” says Anders Ösund, co founder and Managing Partner at Turbine Capital.
“Compressed air is something of a hidden energy consumer in industry. There is a major opportunity here to reduce both energy use and emissions through relatively simple measures. Enairon is approaching the problem in a new way, and that is exactly the kind of disruptive solution we want to invest in,” says Boris Gyllhamn, Investment Manager at Almi Invest GreenTech.
The investment marks an important milestone in Enairon’s growth journey, with the company now focused on delivering its first full scale products, building operational and delivery capacity, and preparing for serial production, broader market adoption, and international expansion.
